Defend Me

THE LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee; Psalm 20:1

Have you ever been falsely accused? Have you had to endure pain and ridicule due to someone saying something hurtful to you? Maybe you were attacked physically, verbally, or abused. In the verse above it says, “the name of the God of Jacob.” Jesus is the same God of the Jacob manifested in the flesh. The Jewish people did not utter the name of God. It was too holy. The name of God was revealed to us as Jesus. So when you are in need of defense just call on the name of God, which is Jesus. It is calling on Jesus as we call to a friend for help that we recieve true defense.

Prayer:

Jesus, I come to you in need of defense and security. You are the one who can work in my situation. I tried on my own, and it has not worked out. I need you to come to my rescue and defense. In you I will be defended. Your defense is what I seek. In your name I pray and commit all of my life in your hands, Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for Virginia Tech Shooting Tragedy

In light of Monday’s terrible event at Viginia Tech I want to take time and give prayer for the individuals involved.Jesus, I come to You in prayer for all the people that have been affected by the tragic shooting. We come to You for hope and comfort, Jesus. Only You can heal our hearts as we grieve deeply for this loss. Touch the families. Help the families be able to reach out to others and make a positive difference for Your good. We are not able to understand why. Therefore, we have many feelings. In You we let our feelings known and keep hope alive as we move forward towards restoration. Jesus, only You alone can bring about healing to these hurting families. Our lives are in your hands. Please comfort these families.* Ross Abdallah AlameddineHometown: Saugus, MassachusettsSophomore, University StudiesStudent since fall 2005* Christopher James BishopInstructor, Foreign LanguagesResidence in BlacksburgJoined Virginia Tech on August 10, 2005* Brian Roy BluhmHometown: Cedar Rapids, IowaMaster’s student, Civil EngineeringStudent since spring 2005* Ryan Christopher ClarkHometown: Martinez, GeorgiaSenior, PsychologyStudent since fall 2002* Austin Michelle CloydHometown: Blacksburg, VirginiaSophomore, Honors Program, International StudiesStudent since fall 2006* Jocelyne Couture-NowakAdjunct Professor, Foreign LanguagesResidence in BlacksburgJoined Virginia Tech on August 10, 2001* Kevin P. Sometimes we battle with things so terrible that we question God. The Psalmist is very distraught in his life, however he comes to acknowledge how God has worked in his life.Psalms 77 (NIV)1 I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. 2 When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands and my soul refused to be comforted. 3 I remembered you, O God, and I groaned; I mused, and my spirit grew faint. Selah 4 You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak. 5 I thought about the former days, the years of long ago; 6 I remembered my songs in the night. My heart mused and my spirit inquired: 7 “Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? 8 Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? 9 Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?” Selah 10 Then I thought, “To this I will appeal: the years of the right hand of the Most High.” 11 I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. 12 I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds. 13 Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God? 14 You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. 15 With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah 16 The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. 17 The clouds poured down water, the skies resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. 18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. 19 Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. 20 You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.Below please leave your prayers of encouragement for the families.
